Bus to Metros at Hale now sched for 1:30 pm

February 4, 2016

Bus to Metro tournament at Hale Friday is now sched for 1:30 pm. You MUST have proper ID with you at weigh in if you want to wrestle & doctors note if needed

How post-season weight allowances work…

February 2, 2016

Basically in the post-season, every weight class goes up two-pounds, so a 106 lb weight class wrestler only has to be under 108 lbs in order to wrestler and so on through the classes (a 285 lb weight class wrestler just has to be under 287 lbs!)

For a two-day tournament (like Metro this Friday and Saturday) there is an ADDITIONAL one pound allowance for the second consecutive day of a tournament so the 106 lb weight class wrestler has to be under 108 lbs for the weigh in on the first day and has to be under 109 lbs on the second day.

But Regionals a week from Saturday is a one day tournament so the 106 lb weight class wrestler would need to weigh in under 108 lbs for the tournament.

Roosevelt beats Garfield 50-21 to remain undefeated in Metro!

January 21, 2016
RHS Wrestling beats Garfield 50-21 to go 12-0 in Metro duals this year!
Ballard wrestling forfeited because of skin condition issues and deserves a lot of respect and appreciation for putting the health and season of their opponents above the frustration that they must be dealing with. I sent a note of thanks to their coach and asked him to pass along our respect for their wrestlers. If you see them later this season, be sure to let them know we’ve noticed the character they’ve demonstrated. (The team score goes down as 1-0. And, of course, the “anchor cup” will remain firmly in the possession of Coach Miller for at least one more year!)

Roosevelt beats O’Dea 2nd year running 37-30!

January 15, 2016

Roosevelt beat O’Dea 37-30 in an exciting battle of the undefeateds that wasn’t settled until the last match wrestled!  This is the second consecutive year of dual match wins over O’Dea after years of watching O’Dea win in Metro.  Roosevelt is now the only remaining team undefeated in Metro duals at 9-0 with 5 Metro dual matches remaining on the year.

Here’s the breakdown of the O’Dea match… What at great TEAM victory! We had 8 wins to only 4 O’Dea’s wins plus 2 forfeits. We had 4 critical pins by Eli, Rory, Conrad, and Tony and one major decision by Matt and if any ONE of those five victories had been a loss, we would have lost the match! Eli’s pin came with 5 seconds left in his match! What a return to winning by Trygve after being out with an injury – I think the O’Dea squad was a little stunned when their star, state-ranked wrestler lost in the fourth match of the night! When wrestling as a TEAM, even a loss where you don’t get pinned is a HUGE contribution like Bradon and Nathan. In fact, TEAM wrestling means every squad member who works their teammates hard in every practice contributes to the win. That’s Rider Wrestling! Nice job!

CORRECTION: Shoreline tournament Jan 9th is at ShoreCREST HS

January 8, 2016

IMPORTANT correction about the location for the tournament on Saturday… it will take place at ShoreCREST HS (NOT Shore”wood” HS). So the correct address is 15343 25th Ave NE which is EAST of I-5 (closer to Lake Washington). Please double check your information and remind anyone who is going.

We can confirm that weigh-ins are at 7 am with wrestling planned to start around 8:30 am. It’s only an eight team tournament so the rounds should move quickly and they say the final consolation and championship matches should be starting around 2 pm. There will be medals for the top FOUR wrestlers in each bracket and team trophies for the top TWO teams.

(Note: this is called the Shore”line” tournament but there isn’t anything called “Shoreline” high school.)
