New Wrestlers

If you are a sophomore or a freshman just entering Roosevelt High School this fall, now is the time to start thinking about joining the wrestling team. Wrestling is a fun, no cut individual sport with a supportive team atmosphere. There is lots of great competition available for both experienced wrestlers and newcomers alike.  Whether you are 105 lbs, 145 lbs or 275 lbs, there is a spot on the team for you.

If you are new to wrestling, we look forward to seeing you in November. Wrestling is a tough sport, but it is great fun and everyone is welcome. Freshmen and Sophomores are especially encouraged as the sooner you get involved, the better you will become.

If you compete in other sports during the year, Wrestling is a great way to have fun and keep in great shape during the off-season. Whether you play Football or Lacrosse, Soccer, Cross Country or Judo, or are just looking for conditioning and coordination, there are lots of advantages to keeping fit with wrestling

Off Season Training

There are lots of ways to keep in shape during the off season. Freestyle Wrestling, Judo, Track, Weight Training, Lacrosse, Cross Country, Football are all great fun. Find something to do and keep in shape. The RHS wrestling team has made huge strides this year thanks in large part to a cadre of young, dedicated athletes.  We can keep this going and challenge for first in Kingco and start sending wrestlers to State, but it will require everyone on the team to step up and work hard during the off season.

Crossfit Training

For wrestlers looking to keep in shape, the crossfit training method offers a fun, varied workout.

CrossFit started out as an Internet Web site in 2001. Now it's an international fitness phenomenon with affiliate gyms and online afficionados (some say addicts) who say it's actually fun to practice the daily regimen and push themselves to the limit. More infomation can be found at the main Crossfit website: http://crossfit.com/

Roosevelt Takedown Tournament November 28th, 2009

Roosevelt hosts an early season Takedown Tournament in the main gym on Saturday November 28th, 2009.

In a Takedown Tournament, points are given for take downs and subsequent falls and then the wrestlers are stood backup and go after a takedown again.  The pace is fast and wrestlers get a great chance to practice this critical skill.  10 teams from around the region will be in attendance and three mats will be filled with action.  Wrestlers will be put into groups of 4 and everyone will wrestle  3 - 2 minute matches with 45 minutes between match.Details...

Wrestling Practice

Practice is after school in the yoga room. Practice time starts 25 minutes after school gets out and goes on for 2 hours. Normal practice time is 3-5pm. On days that school gets out early, we have practice early at 1-3pm.

Bring shorts, T shirt, wrestling shoes, big water bottle. Coach likes kids to stay in the room and not be running out to fill up their bottle every few minutes.

Practices are every day during the season. No practice on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New years day, Sundays, days that we have a tournament or a match.  8:30-10:30 AM for Saturday practices.

We do practice on the day after Thanksgiving, the day after Christmans, winter vacation days, etc. Winter vaction practices are in fact a very important part of the wrestling year. A lot of the years hard work and growth happens during late December.
